Guitar as a hobby

(Blogger has been malfunctioning for the past few days, so I'll try to increase my post frequency to make up for it)
I've been playing guitar for a year and a half, and I've acquired several pieces of advice for both myself and other people. I wouldn't really say that I'm the best, but I'm happy with my progress, and that is point one. Your progress is important, and try to keep track of it. Record yourself playing songs, revisit difficult songs that you had trouble learning before, and always compare yourself to what you were a week or a month ago. Instead of trying to loathe yourself for not playing like a virtuoso, be happy that you've gone so far on your journey already. Another way to see this is to just flip your guitar over; try playing it left-handed if you're right-handed, or vice versa. You barely will be able to play anything; but when you go to your normal position, you'll realize how much better you've gotten.
My second piece of advice is for people just starting with it. The first few months are the most difficult, and as you unlock more techniques and things that you can play, it will start becoming much easier. But how do you get better? With practice, of course. Practice is really important and it's something that I missed out on for a lot of my time playing the guitar. Look up guitar exercises on YouTube, and try to follow them for a couple weeks or months. That is my third tip.
And my final tip is to leave your guitar in a place where it's easy to access. Do not put it away in a case; you'll not want to play it as much if it's out of your quick reach. A thing that will happen often for you is just grabbing the guitar when you're bored or when you get ideas. That will be obstructed much more if you put it away or hide it somewhere. And that's all four of my tips! Playing guitar is a really fun and rewarding journey; learning so much about music and being able to play it makes you appreciate it much more. See you in the next post!
